All sessions are 30 or 45 minutes in a semi-private space.
Many people who are familiar with longer massage sessions ask if you can really get anything done in just 30 minutes. For many symptoms*, when you address the underlying muscle, nerve, or skeletal condition, the body usually naturally finds balance again. If you have to keep "fixing" the same issue over and over again, you haven't fixed it in the first place. *For other symptoms, sometime a maintenance routine is necessary.
We do not offer longer sessions.
Community Massage aims to lower all the barriers to treatment that is possible, for as many people as possible, while continuing to be financially self-sustaining. We see health and wellness care as a public good rather than an extractive profit mechanism. It also recognizes that healing is best done in community, not in isolation. Learn more...
How often should I come in?/How long does it take to fix me?
Each therapist is different, but it often takes 3-5 sessions to improve the signs and symptoms of the original concern which brought you in, unless there are more than one significant conditions or injuries which are creating secondary (or tertiary) compensation patterns. Or, those conditions and their compensation patterns are interacting with each other in ways which interfere with either of them to be able to resolve on their own.
Acute conditions respond best to weekly sessions whereas chronic conditions can be spaced out more (eg 3-6 weeks).
Massage work tends to "stick" for about 2-3 weeks, so if you have reached the point where you feel your goals have been accomplished, it is a good idea to do just one more session to help it stay at the level you want to stay at. Exposure to systemic, structural, chornic, or toxic stressors can reduce the effectiveness of massage to "stick" and may require more sessions at more frequent intervals. However, if you have a significant trauma history and massage is contributing to notable resolution of trauma symptoms, it may be necessary to both increase the amount of time between sessions to help your bodymind "process" and to work concurrently with a psychotherapist.
If you are looking for more long term "body therapy," it is best to first do an initial three to five sessions for us to get to know your body tension patterns, then do a 60-min postural education session, and after that we can custom tailor an holistic approach.
